The family Gherardini owned Sant’Appiano from the XIV century. Catellini from Castiglione XV and XVI Then the family Pitti became the owners till Ughi and the Ghibellini followed (who were mentioned in Dantes song Paradieses XVI ) history says that they where one of the Nobile families which made Florence rich.”I saw the Ughi the Catellini, Filippi, Greci, Ormanni and the Alberighi, all celebrities of the city of Florence.” The Muzzi and Pier Francesco from Guccio where then owners to be followed by the now owners the family Cappelli of Florence.

The winery Sant’Appiano is in the hamlet of the same name and lies nestled between the rolling Chianti hills between Florence and Siena in the valley of the Elsa.

Dominico Cappelli bought the winery in 1961, after his death he left it to his children and grandchildren who have carried on in the family tradition.
